Drive-through-penalty costs Norbert Siedler top-result in Zandvoort

Comeback in the Ferrari 488 GT3 at the 24 Hours of Spa next weekend

A penalty at the ADAC GT Masters in Zandvoort cost Norbert Siedler a possible top-result on Sunday. Because of a pit-stop, which was 0.4 seconds too short, the Austrian had to drive through the pit-lane while covering position four and finished the race in 17th place. At the next weekend, Siedler will compete in the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with a Ferrari 488 GT3 prepared by Rinaldi Racing.

After a small crash by Marco Mapelli (I) in the second qualifying, Norbert Siedler and his team-mate had to start the race on Sunday from 19th position only. Mapelli improved up to eleventh position until the mandatory driver change. After the hectic pit-stop-window Norbert Siedler re-joined the track in fourth place.

“The driver-change seemed to be perfect. It was really narrow in the pit-lane, but for us everything went per plan,” Norbert Siedler described. But the joy did not last long. “Unfortunately we were exactly 0.4 seconds too fast,” the Tyrolean was angry. “Of course we did not win a position due to this small period of time, but the following drive-through-penalty was justified anyway.” From the back of the field Norbert Siedler managed to improve at least to the 17th position until the end of the race.

On the day before luck was not on Norbert Siedler’s side as well: Starting from 18th position in Saturday’s race, the HB-Racing-driver and his team-mate had already moved up to the eleventh place, when a blown-up tyre led to an early retirement.

“In the ADAC GT Masters we really have a lot of bad luck,” Norbert Siedler summarized. “The 20-minute qualifying sessions are often interrupted by red flags. You need some luck to catch a free lap. In the races we improved many positions and would have brought home some good points without the bad luck on Saturday and the little mistake on Sunday.”

Norbert Siedler back in the Rinaldi-Ferrari for the 24 Hours of Spa

At the next weekend an endurance race is on Norbert Siedler’s schedule: The 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. At the season highlight of the Blancpain GT Series the Austrian will steer a Ferrari 488 GT3 prepared by Rinaldi Racing.

In the biggest GT race of the world Norbert Siedler will share the cockpit with fellow pro-driver Matteo Malucelli (I) and the two gentlemen-drivers Alexander Mattschull (D) and Rinat Salikhov (RUS). “With this driver line-up we should have good chances in the Pro-Am-class. We want to fight for the class victory. The test days a few weeks ago were promising,” the 34-year-old is looking forward.
